About Claire
I am a fully qualified teacher (PGCE, QTS) with many years experience ranging from Reception to Year 8. It was while teaching younger learners at a local school that I developed an interest in dyslexia. I realised that reading, writing and spelling skills, taught with the more traditional teaching methods, simply did not click into place for some children. This led me to train as a Specialist Teacher (Level 5) at the prestigious Helen Arkell Dyslexia Centre so that I could support children with dyslexia and other literacy difficulties. As this area fascinated me, I progressed to the Level 7 (Master's) Specialist Assessor Qualification at Helen Arkell.
I believe that individual assessment and personalised specialist tuition not only supports childrens' academic success, but more importantly, improves their self esteem.
I have three children, two dogs and two cats. I am a volunteer with Pets as Therapy, visiting schools as part of the Read to Dogs programme, as well as visiting other institutions such as universities and care homes to promote wellbeing.
